PROJECT RESULTS: ENCLOSURES DESIGN FOR ELECTRO ELECTRONIC PRODUCTS AND PRODUCERS NETWORK FOR SMALL SERIES.

The project “STRENGTHENING THE COMPETITIVENESS OF COMPANIES IN THE CLUSTER INDUSTRY OF ELECTRO ELECTRONIC OF BOGOTA CUNDINAMARCA, BY IMPLEMENTING SERVICE ENCLOSURES DESIGN FOR ELECTRO ELECTRONICS AND THE CREATION OF A NETWORK OF PRODUCERS WHO ARE IN ABILITY TO MANUFACTURE PROTOTYPES AND SMALL SERIES OF PROPOSED DESIGNS” belongs to STRATEGIC PROGREM FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE ELCTRO ELECTRONIC INDUSTRY OF BOGOTÁ AND CUNDINAMARCAPROGRAMA” financed by COLCIENCIAS and executed by CIDEI. It aims to “develop service for the design and manufacture of prototypes for small series of enclosures” that meet the technical standards required by the markets and that have aesthetic and functional attributes that facilitate and promote its commercialization, with ASESEL as an entity beneficiary of the project.

METODOLOGY

The project development was divided into 3 iterations on which a design methodology was constructed which aims to convene, aligning and coordinating resources necessary to implement the activities -research, conceptualization, generation of ideas, and so on- consistently and under a look that leads to the fulfilment of the objectives.

In structuring the design process the concepts of co-learning and interdisciplinary, were integrated as ways to understand the various dimensions of the product and the conditions of the undertaking to propose a coherent enclosure to the specific needs of the company, the user and the particularities sector.

This methodology is structured upon the principles of design thinking and focuses on four (4) basic steps: the user experience, creativity, selection and design or implementation, which have specific activities such as:

  • User Experience: To understand, observe and define.
  • Creativity: Define and develop.
  • Selection: Devise, prototype and test.
  • Design and execution: To test and implement.

Activities are analysed and compacted to create a methodology to guide the development of the design of enclosures for seventeen (17) companies participating in the electro electronic sector of Bogota, Cundinamarca.

PRODUCERS NETWORK

For the project it was vital to structure a network of producers to ensure proper development of products or prototypes for validation and ensure both its manufacture and use. The formal and functional development of the prototype for each participating company allowed to evaluate and validate both the material and the process managed by the provider to feedback to the process and the strategies implemented for selection.

These prototypes focused on various production processes which are selected according to the requirements of the product, focusing as social, contextual, economic and functional requirements; under these principles prototypes they were developed using different production processes, among which are: Thermoforming, Injection, Vacuum casting and sheet metal, which are validated by complementary processes such as: CNC machining, 3D printing, sheet metal, thermal bending and thermoforming processes that are approaching a large percentage to the original process.

BUSINESS AND MANAGEMENT PLAN

In order to comply with the project objectives and create a service that is feasible, a business plan under a mixed methodology between Canvas, traditional methodology and Lean Start up, with which the existing need was identified in the market it was defined and the value proposition that should offer the service defined. This value proposition is validated and supplemented for use as input in the construction and validation of value activities, processing time and costs associated with the service.

According to the validated information of the Business Plan and the activities developed during the project, the service management plan, which presents and describes the tools to use the talent involved and provides guidelines for the proper functioning of states same. The plan defined under three processes: interim review mission and support, and generates for each of these operating documentation: procedures, formats, operating manuals, organizational structure and value chain.
